In order to gain certification, therapists are required to accrue a certain amount of practicum / practice hours. You can benefit by seeing a skilled, professional Counsellor as they acquire hours for certification.
If your budget or schedule does not allow for sessions with a registered clinical counsellor, rest assured that our practicum students have been personally screened to ensure all incoming clients can receive quality counselling. The students receive direct supervision from a Registered Clinical Counsellor while they complete their training and see clients at reduced rates on a sliding scale. |

STEPH JANZEN (she/her)
Practicum Student,
Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology Candidate
Offered counselling services
PRACTICUM START DATE: MAY 8th, 2023
Steph comes to our team as a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology intern from the Yorkville University program.
Steph has been working with youth, families, and adults for over 20 years. She draws on a wealth of experience from her roles as a birth and post-partum doula, personal support worker for youth, education assistant, life coach, and home-schooling parent. She has a passion for supporting people through life transitions, challenges, and personal growth. Some of the areas she has experience working with include stress management, anxiety, burnout, struggles with confidence and self-worth, parenting challenges, goal-setting and mindset, relationship issues, and learning disorders.
Steph works from a client-centred, holistic approach. She is dedicated to listening with non-judgement, openness, and empathy. Her experience has taught her that life can lead us through difficult and overwhelming times, and we can sometimes feel like we’re trying to find our way alone in the dark. Her aim is to provide a safe and comforting space for her clients to feel heard, understood, and find the solution that is right for them. She will champion your resiliency with gentleness and warmth (and a little humour along the way).
In her personal life, Steph is grateful to call the Comox Valley her lifelong home. She is an avid skier, forest bather, and river swimmer. She has spent countless hours on the ocean cruising the entire BC coast from the Washington to Alaska borders and to the westside of Haida Gwaii. She is a mom to two adventuresome teenage sons and has been married for 20 years.
